First on our list of easy prep drama games for elementary students is to print and cut. Second on the prep list is to laminate for longevity especially if you will use these outdoors in the wintertime. Keep these cards organized by punching a hole at one end of each card and securing all the cards together with a binder ring. Who wants to jump in and play this game? You could easily jot down vocabulary words you are focusing on currently or you could purchase this drama game here. Students will take turns to act out the word on the card they choose. This drama game is sure to get their competitive juices flowing but in a good way! Watch your students compete to use classroom vocabulary – in this case: Winter Vocabulary.
This one is sure to be highly requested by your students as their favourite drama game! It’s an easy one to grab and head outside to your outdoor classroom, alternatively, you can use it indoors. Students will have an opportunity to take risks by playing the charades drama game. Also, performing for an audience can improve your students’ self-confidence. Ultimately, confidence and growth mindset are skills we all want our students to show in the classroom and in life.
When students work as a team to reach a goal (or points in this drama game!), they learn the value of communication. Students see this as an drama game but don’t necessarily see its value as a means to align them to work harder for the good of the team and cooperate. Students will build these leadership skills and practice winter theme vocabulary at the same time. If you are looking for seasonal vocabulary drama games, you can find Spring, Summer and Fall Vocabulary Drama Games in my teachers pay teachers store.
Without a doubt, you will have some students who really enjoy the game and that will be clear in their outward behaviour. For the the students who are more reserved, try this approach following the game. Rather than let the game fall apart, end the game with this drawing activity. Students take this “exit ticket” and choose the word that they felt was the best acted out. Additionally, students can draw out the scene for you to use as an assessment.
All the words included in this drama game are winter-themed. If you don’t use them for drama, they make excellent cards to use with students who speak English as a Second Language.
